Android Lollipop was the biggest
change in Android OS. It was not only the user facing and visual but also a lot
of APIs and developer facing changes. After that The Google announcing their
latest update in Android OS the Marshmallow. Now we are talking about some
features of Marshmallow.
What’s new in Marshmallow?
Doze Mode
Marshmallow is having a new key
feature for saving their device’s battery life. Google calls it ‘Doze Mode’.
When you are not using your phone the ‘Doze Mode’ puts your device in deep
sleep mode. If your device in your pocket or on your desk and actually it is
untouched by you than the device determines by its accelerometer that it’s not
using. Then the device switches into Doze Mode where most of applications will
be silenced to save its batter life. You
will get your important notifications even your phone is in Doze mode.
‘Google Now’ was started to Android
in 2012. But now it is more improved and added features to Google Now. It is
Google’s attempt to answer before even the users needed to ask them. Questions
like what time is it? Is it good weather to go outside? But the latest update
of Google Now is ‘Now on Tap’. In the previews
version of Android ‘Google Now’ start with simply long press in home button.
But in latest update of Google Now you get a ‘G’ icon to start Now on Tap after
activating it.
Fingerprint API
It was the Desired one for the
Android users to have fingerprint reader API in their phone. At last the latest
version of Android Marshmallow 6.0 is having that desired fingerprint feature
for their user. Android Marshmallow users can enjoy that Google’s fingerprint
API. Google’s New fingerprint API allows secure and reliable fingerprint readers
into their phones much easier.
Chrome Custom Tabs
Finally, the Marshmallow comes with
Chrome Custom Tabs. The developers can easily customize their content with
chrome custom tabs. Plus, you get 3 times faster at loading web pages than browsers
that utilize WebView. When you click on a link or feed it’ll opened with Chrome
Custom Tabs and it pretty great. And you get this features in latest version of
Android the Marshmallow.
Notification and Volume Controls
In the latest version of Android OS
is Marshmallow bring a great change on their Volume Controls. There you can see
the media volume, notification volume and alarm volume in volume panel. And now
there a tiny little arrow placed on the right of the panel. Tapping this arrow,
you can modify all of the different volume levels. Also the “Do Not Disturb” setting gratefully
improved in Marshmallow.
App Permissions
Though Android has app permission
system for their previews version but in the latest version of Android
Marshmallow improve their App Permission segment. It was the irritating to take
an extra step to install a app from play store. Now in Marshmallow, Android
users no longer need to approve to install a app from play store. After installing the application users can
define which are accessed by app or not and it can be instant or later.
Text Selection
The Marshmallow bring the bigger
change in Text Selection task. When you select some text and highlight a floating
toolbar will be pop up with the options “Select
all”, “copy” and “share”. Also there have a toolbar as a menu button that
placed on right side of pop up menu includes contextual options such as a share
or insert link depending on the text you have highlighted.
Direct Share
The Marshmallow users can easily
share their photo or text directly via their app or contact list. You are getting
more facility of sharing experience in Marshmallow. In Direct Share you are
getting ability to not only share something such a photo or data with another
app, but with individual contacts within a certain app.
Adoptable Storage
Before in Android, users were able
to move certain over to the SD card from internal storage. It was very limited
for some powered users. There was no way to move private app data to SD card
from internal storage. But Marshmallow’s adoptable storage resolves this
problem by formatting any SD card then using it the same as internal storage.
Overall the latest update of
Android the Marshmallow is a great update to Android and it deserves to be praised
for that. There will be some issue that are still google can’t define, but
great hope is that if it points out some issue then Google finds solutions
those issues as sooner as maybe in Android ‘N’.
